To recap the CoolSculpting process that I underwent and have previously posted about, the clinic ordered two sessions for removing fat cells from my stomach area.   The sessions were not painful (rather relaxing) and I experienced no side effects — at that time.

The Good:  I lost a total of 4 inches, two from my stomach and two from my waist.

The Bad:  Taking into account the cost for these two sessions, I paid $637.25 per inch.

The Very Ugly:  Fourteen days after my first session, I experienced severe intestinal cramping and diarrhea, which lasted off and on for about a week.  Fourteen days after my second session, I periodically experienced more diarrhea until the first part of the following month, at which time the diarrhea intensified to the point that it limited my ability to venture outside my home. I spent most of that month either on the toilet or looking for one.

Since I did not correlate the CoolSculpting procedures with the diarrhea, I made an appointment with my gastrointestinal doctor. (I had been Googling several sites regarding my symptoms and was certain that I had cancer!)

The doctor ordered blood work and several sets of stool samples. Believe me when I tell you that you DO NOT want to go through the process of submitting stool samples to a lab.  She then set a date for a colonoscopy.  The lab results were negative and my colon is in pristine condition. The doctor even provided me with photos to prove it!

When I realized that the CoolSculpting procedure may have been the cause of the diarrhea, I did some research and discovered that cramps and diarrhea are side effects of the process.  The body has to eliminate fat cells one way or the other, through urine and/or fecal matter.

Moving Forward:  I have alerted the clinic and the FDA of my side effects and, needless to say, have determined that CoolSculpting is not for me. Obviously, everyone’s body will react differently to this procedure. Just ensure you are made completely aware of all side effects before you decide to undergo CoolSculpting.
