Okay, so a five o’clock shadow on a guy may look sexy, but it’s definitely not the “look” women want.
Unfortunately, the growth of unsightly facial hair is just one of many side effects women experience during menopause and after. And, once again, the culprit is a declining level of estrogen — but with the body producing the same amount of testosterone. This imbalance of hormones creates male secondary characteristics, such as coarse facial hair.
Fun fact (not!): Not only do we start sprouting hair on our chins and upper lips but, conversely, the hair on our heads thins and we find more of it in the bathroom sink and shower drain. Get out the Liquid Plumber!
Removing facial hair temporarily can be done by some of the following methods: shaving (using a shaving cream produces a closer shave — really!), tweezing, waxing, and epilation (removing hairs from the root). For a permanent solution, electrolysis is the answer. However, ensure a qualified professional is doing the procedure; otherwise, you may experience a skin infection. Seek the advice of your dermatologist for recommendations.
Let’s face it. It takes time, money and perseverance for menopausal and post-menopausal women to keep up appearances!
